Pyramid receives national Stewardship Award

The US Forest Service instituted this national award to recognize outstanding work in the area of stewardship contracting. It was based on Leadership, Integration and Collaboration, Local Economy, Restoration, Efficiency and effectiveness, and finally the Successfulness of the projects.

In his nomination, Jerry Thompson, Region 1 Stewardship Coordinator stated that Pyramid demonstrated a superior level of expertise and commitment to excellence in all projects they have been associated with. Both the harvesting operations and the wide array of service work have been done with a high degree of professionalism and on time.

Pyramid’s expertise spans all kinds of restoration work including but not limited to water quality improvement, fish and wildlife habitat improvement, road decommissioning, and recreation facilities to improve water quality.

Pyramid Mountain Lumber, Inc. was the first partner to participate in a stewardship contract in Region 1. The success of the Clearwater Stewardship Project helped launch an increasing restoration program in Region 1. This project was one of the most complicated projects attempted. It had many different restoration activities, everything from bridge construction to the installation of vault toilets to improve water quality in Seeley Lake.

Thompson stated, “To this day the Clearwater Stewardship project is considered a model of what the best stewardship contracting has to offer.”

Pyramid’s President, Roger Johnson, and Resource Manager, Gordy Sanders, were presented the award by Bruce Fox, Region 1 Director of Renewable Resource Management, at the annual Region I Awards Ceremony in Missoula, MT on October 6, 2009.
