7/13/2007 Montana Governor visits Pyramid
Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer visited Pyramid Mountain Lumber, Inc. on July 9th. Accompanied by DNRC Director, Mary Sexton and Chief Policy Advisor, Hal Harper,
Schweitzer emphasized the importance of Montana mills that provide important infrastructure that supports forest management goals.
Pyramid President, Roger Johnson guided the group on a tour of the mill’s upgraded computerized equipment. The complex equipment is needed to utilize every part of the timber in an efficient manner.
After the tour, discussions took place with mill owners, officers and foresters. Johnson stated that timber supply is a major issue. It was emphasized that forests need to be managed in a way that balances fuel reduction and improves forest health, thus supporting rural communities.
State timber sales constitute about 10% of Pyramid’s timber supply.
